Beinecke Library Proposal

This studio proposes to examine the basic reasons why architecture is the sum of all humanistic activities.  It seeks to understand the potential of the search for originality and how the unconventional has the ability to excite us all.  What are the new paths that technology and contemporary thinking can produce in redefining the essential values of architecture when reviewing the canons of excellence as plans, sections, volumes, postures, geometries, and re-adapt them to the methodologies of contemporary culture and society?  This study will explore the logic of perfect architecture and merge the concepts of excellence in the field in pursuit of a multi-layered and coherent reality.  The project will replace the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University, one of the true innovative masterpieces of american architecture, with exactly the same program, square footage and location.
